DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Get reports on the general and specific wellbeing of all the children. Visit the dormitories daily to see all children who are there for any health concerns. • Liaise with the children’s mums/supervisors and specific children about their individual medical care and follow up. • Every Monday, plan and prepare medications for the 8 younger children who are on regular medicines for chronic illnesses. Ensure child’s mum/supervisor confirms the medications are correct for their child. • Every day, check on the medication signup sheets to confirm that medicines are given as prescribed to children. • Work with the dorm parents and housekeepers to develop a general cleaning schedule for commonly touched surfaces as a preventive measure for communicable diseases. • Ensure that all meals and snacks provide a nutritious, balanced diet for developing children. Maintain a set menu with the catering department, making improvements and changes in the meals as required to give maximum nutritional benefit. • Keep a weekly inventory of the infirmary that includes medications and all medical supplies and equipment. Ensure there are sufficient, but not excessive quantities of commonly administered meds/supplies in stock for care needs. • Liaise with different local hospitals in order to take children for hospital visits as per appointments and for urgent and emergency care needs. • Every 3 months, give all children deworming medicine. • Keep up with public health updates in relation to vaccinations, outbreaks of illnesses in our area, and any other health related matters. • Regularly conduct scheduled staff and community parent trainings on HIV/AIDS, nutrition, hygiene, common illness prevention and treatment, and any other topics as deemed necessary. • Prepare quarterly work plans and budgets as per organizational guidelines. • Participate in parenting of the 91 children. • Liaise with Cornerstone Preparatory Academy’s nurse regarding the health of the children while at school. • Plan to work with the public health nurse for capacity building within the health sector. • Research on and keep up to date on health care emerging issues and their management. • Any other duty assigned by the immediate supervisor. KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION • Diploma/Degree in Nursing • KRCHN (Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse) or KRN (Kenya Registered Nurse) • Minimum 4 years of nursing experience • Valid NCK practicing license • Monitor and promote the daily health and wellbeing of children

Complete head to toe assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs Develop written care plans based on patients’ needs, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions Carry out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs, neurological and fluid status; labs and radiological evaluations Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and report adverse reactions promptly. Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga khan University Hospital Guidelines on waste management. Prepare for and assist physicians to perform various procedures in the clinic. Maintain adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy, nebulization and suctioning Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies, and perform timely safety checks on restraints, examination coaches, oxygen source and other medical equipment in the clinic. Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of clinic stock drugs and consumables Care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of non-functional equipment to the Operations manager Follow discharge procedure of the out patients according to hospital protocol, and ensure follow up appointments are made where needed. Participate in clinic-based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks Requirements: Registered Nurse from a recognized school of nursing or University Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Minimum requirement of 5 years’ continuous clinical experience in medical surgical Nursing. Experience in leadership roles within a clinical environment will be an advantage Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of the current practices in general nursing in an outpatient set up Demonstrate leadership skills
